Taming of the Shrew with Cassidy, Lucy, and Tag the dog!

Lucy and Cassidy deconstruct identity, societal standards of "wifely" perfection, Heath Ledger, complicated female characters, and much more ALL while we draw our image of sweet Kate. Since we could not go to England for some Shakespeare, we decided to recreate a discussion we might have had with over our own work of art. Sit back, relax, and enjoy our slight jabs at one another and our criticism of Shrew. Be warned: there is language present.

***Disclaimer: We talk about abuse, victim/survivor, control, power dynamics, and other complex issues. We understand that though we may try as hard as we can, we may say things that sound problematic. We want all of you to know that our intentions are nothing but pure and we tried to push ourselves past a level of social discomfort to bring some light to these topics. We feel that if we leave them unsaid, we are doing a disservice to these topics and contributing to the stigma surrounding them. We find that it's necessary to establish a personal and academic discourse for these topics within our video and recognize that it's more important to catch ourselves in the moment and through reflection on what we could have and should have said differently. If anyone finds something we said to be problematic, please let us know so we can orient ourselves in a more authentic position. We must stumble in order to grow instead of avoiding these issues.*** Love, C&L

Here Lucy and I fail at an intro, express some existential dread, talk about Lucy's aunt who's (per Lucy) uninformed, and mispronounce Petruchio! These are just tiny snippets of what couldn't --for obvious reasons--make the final cut. This is for those who wish to see our project without listening to an entire hour-long podcast. This is a sped up version of our drawing accompanied by our bloopers! ~There's also 50 more minutes of this titled: Part II. We'll see if that sees daylight...

At 9:00, a really great point, Lucy. Thank you for showing an talking us through the process! This is an engaging way to engage with the play.

I think that asking people on the street what their definition of 'shrew' is would be a fun exercise.

29:30 is really helpful and empowering to hear you both express and discuss. Even if its problematic, the discourse needs to go on. Thanks for making this a aspect of your work. It is opposed pretense. I don't feel like I'm being sold something I don't want to buy.

39:00 You both rock and have given me a lot of great insight into identity constructions.

47:00 which wind-breaker? hmm I can't help but think…
